Happy Wednesday! This hummingbird image has very little to do with my post but a great deal to do with my mood. It’s a good day today! I’ll keep it short and sweet with a little itemized update on my life:
1. I’m getting back to posting regularly, bear with me. Turns out, it’s kind of hard to write after a long commute and a full day of work. Instead, I’ve been eating a lot of brownies and watching “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (which is very cute!) I’ll be back. Really!
2. I’m becoming the kind of person who works out regularly! This is coming from the girl who was the slowest in PE her entire life and who is practically allergic to treadmills. BUT I discovered spin class, as well as barre, which are two of the girliest, most fun, yet most challenging workouts I’ve ever done. [By girly I mean “Due to societal gender expectations these are workouts that are looked down upon as feminine even though they are hard as hell”]. And guys, getting moving feels gooood. New year, new me, amirite?
3. I took my dad to the cabaret. I never thought I would utter those words, but last weekend Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli played a Nat King Cole tribute concert with Bay Area Cabaret. We loved it, and it was great daddy daughter bonding time. Mr. Lewis is one magnificient jazz pianist.
4. Two weekends ago I saw “The Color Purple” with my mom. We went to a vegan soul food restaurant for brunch (surprisingly delicious, no offense mom). The show was billed as “Starring Jennifer Holliday,” which was of course a major draw. They did trick us a little, because she played Sophia and not Celie, but the show was gorgeous regardless. “The Color Purple” always feels like more than a musical; it’s like going to church. Everyone there knows the story, knows their favorite line by heart (“You told Harpo to beat me?!”), and cries at the same heart-wrenching moments. The singing was gorgeous and stirring, and it was a completely lovely Saturday. Me and my mom are already planning a trip to New York to see the Broadway revival this fall, starring Jennifer Hudson.
That’s it for now. Anything you’d like to see on the blog as I re-vamp and renew? (I don’t really know what that means but the alliteration felt right.) Hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
Love and theatre,
