I’m in another play, y’all! I’m starring as Demetrius in a lush, magical rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Directed by Alison Sacha Ross (who may be an actual fairy), this production is all about feverish, triumphant, unstoppable love. Alison’s simple, open-hearted interpretation leaves space for the language to shine – still achingly beautiful after 400 years. Our show features delightfully diverse couplings: a lesbian Demetrius and Helena, two beautiful Queens Theseus and Hippolyta, a gorgeous black Oberon and Titania. Loving loudly, passionately, irrationally – and pushing back against white heterosexual norms at that – is an act of resistance. There is so much joy to be found onstage and I feel blessed to be a part of this marvelous cast. Here are a few photos of the production. Enjoy and don’t forget to love each other.
(The show runs October 6-22 at the Kelly Cullen Community Center in SF. Pay-what-you-will at the door. More info on the Theater of Others site.)
Love and theatre,
K
